about

The Sing Out project, led by musician Steven Smith, has worked with young people who are members of Mosaic LGBT Youth Centre and the London Gay Men's Chorus to write and record this song. It is an upbeat, catchy, alternative pop song which holds a strong message - calling for schools to ensure that LGBTQ+ young people are properly educated on important topics such as our bodies, gender issues and sexuality.

All proceeds from this single are going directly to Mosaic LGBT Youth Centre to allow them to continue their important work. Feel free to give as much as wish!

This project was made possible through funding from Sound Connections' Innovate Fund.

Teacher, Teacher - by Sing Out with Mosaic LGBT Youth Centre and London Gay Men's Chorus

Verse 1
Teacher, teacher hold on wait!
What if I don’t think I’m straight?
Teacher, teacher tell me why, it’s so greedy to be bi.
Teach us to touch, like you teach us to breed
Don’t pull us apart, it’s a basic need.
Teacher, teacher tell me this
If I’m gay can I not have kids?

Pre-chorus 1
I don’t need your permission.
I was born this way, it’s not my decision.

Chorus 1
You have so much to learn.
There’s so much that needs to change.
The power’s in your hands, why can’t you see?
You should teach equality.
You have the chance to set us free!

Verse 2
Teacher, teacher tell me why
I am what’s between my thighs.
Teacher help me understand,
Why they say it’s made up to be trans.
Teach us to tuck, teach us to bind
It’s my body, let me make up my mind.
Teacher, teacher why in the world
Can I only be a boy or a girl?

Pre-chorus 2
You don’t need their permission.
You were born this way, it’s not your decision.

Chorus 2
You have so much to learn.
There’s so much that needs to change.
The power’s in your hands, why can’t you see?
You should teach equality.
You have the chance to set us free!

Bridge
Teacher, teacher!
This isn’t for attention!
Teacher, teacher!
This shouldn’t bring you pain!
Teacher, teacher!
We’re not different, we’re not strange!
Teacher, teacher!
This world should be a safe space!
Teacher, teacher maybe today
You’ll see that queer is OK!

Pre-chorus 3
We don’t need their permission
We were born this way, it’s not our decision.

Chorus 3
We have so much to learn.
There’s so much that needs to change.
The power’s in our hands, why can’t we see?
We should teach equality.
We have the chance to set us free!
We have so much to learn.
There’s so much that needs to change.
The power’s in our hands, why can’t we see?
We should teach equality.
There’s no difference between you and me.
